The Medical AI Bootcamp is a closely mentored research program at the intersection of AI and medicine, which I co-lead with Prof. Pranav Rajpurkar at Harvard Medical School. It is open to Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and MIT students, as well as medical doctors across the world. I directly mentor participants through research projects — from framing a question, to building and evaluating systems, to writing and publishing the work.

Participants lead their own research project with structured guidance, meet weekly as a group to discuss progress and dissect recent papers, and frequently become co-authors — many as first authors — on peer-reviewed publications.

• Duration: 6–9 months, with a commitment of roughly 15–20 hours per week
• Meeting: Weekly group Zoom meetings for progress updates, paper discussions, and skill development
• Mentorship: weekly guidance from me and collaborating faculty and researchers
• Goal: a real research contribution — most projects target a peer-reviewed publication

AI Track — for undergraduate and graduate students at Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and MIT. You should have practical machine learning foundations (strong performance in relevant coursework), solid Python skills, and the ability to commit for at least two semesters. Programming ability is assessed during the interview.

Medicine Track — for MDs and equivalent degree holders anywhere in the world. Clinical experience is preferred, and all specialties are welcome. Applicant should have a genuine interest in how AI can change clinical practice.

Projects track the frontier of medical AI and align with my core research directions: multimodal foundation models and agents for medicine, rigorous evaluation environments and benchmarks, and generative tools that bridge AI to patients and clinicians. Recent bootcampers I closely supervised have published in venues such as NEJM AI, CHIL, MLHC, and more.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling monthly basis. The application takes about 10–15 minutes: a CV/resume, a transcript (for students), and a short statement of motivation.
